Everyone finally goes to sleep
at dawn.
Still,
my heart spins round.
Departmental cats
Kendrick Smithyman wondered
if they would be procurable.
I think they would be pro-research.
Pro-reading, I know they are.
I think they feed off alpha-waves
that rise invisibly off the page
as soft as fur,
perhaps it is a kind of frictional energy
of the mind that raises thought-fur
off the page the way
plastic chairs in school libraries
rise up furrily to meet
the legs in skirts
of literate little girls.
